The clock room spends gears to add things to the run itself. Where the confessional raises numbers, the clock room adds events: new map tiles, new rewards, a shop that did not exist before. That is a different kind of upgrade, and it is the one that decides whether a run with bad cards survives.
Card draws are luck. What you unlock here keeps working on the runs where the luck does not show up.
What to unlock first
| Order | Unlock | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Healing tiles on the map | HP recovery that does not depend on a draw |
| 2 | Special attacks as stage rewards | A button that exists in boss fights |
| 3 | Sell cards at the shop | Dead cards leave the hand, so a rank can complete |
| 4 | Sell derived skills at the shop | Leftover cards become a resource |
| 5 | Trading | Swap what you found for what you need |
Why healing tiles come first
There is almost no way to recover HP in this game. You heal when you draw a card that heals, or when you stop on a healing tile.
A card you did not draw cannot help you. A tile on the map is there whether or not the draw went your way. Running out of HP before the boss is the cheapest loss to eliminate, and it is the loss that hits hardest on exactly the runs where the hand is weak.
Put special attacks on the reward table
Next is making special attacks appear as stage rewards. A special attack is a hit that ignores how armoured the enemy is, which matters most in boss fights.
The point is the order of operations: do not hope to pick one up, make it part of the reward pool. Left to chance, it will be missing at the moment you need it.
The shop exists to complete hands
Once the shop opens, you can sell cards.
Selling matters because the hand is fixed at five. Cutting one dead card is the same as making room for the rank you are chasing. Two pair with scattered numbers, a flush with three suits in it — the shop is how you empty a slot without waiting for the right draw.
Selling derived skills works the same way: cards you will not use turn into something you will.
The order matters more than the speed
Nothing in the clock room makes you stronger the moment you unlock it. Healing tiles and special attacks pay out on the next run.
So treat the first few runs as runs you are spending to unlock, not runs you are trying to win. When you cannot decide between sin for the confessional and gears for the clock room, unlock first if anything is still locked. Numbers can always be raised later; an unlock that has not happened does not exist.
